The man called Horatio Swiftblade came to Loriah as part of a
cadre of Human Assassins escaping the chaos in the outer world.
Hard times are hard on Assassins, and the group was forced to
disband as a spirit of cooperation descended on the few denizens
of Loriah, limiting the call for professional killers. Horatio
now relies on his wits to see him through this dangerous world
inhabited by strange and powerful beasts, always on the lookout
for his former cohorts, but fairly certain he may be the last
of his fellow humans left on the island of Loriah.
It has now been several years since his arrival on Loriah, and
Horatio has spent most of that time operating outside the Law as
a branded Killer, forsaking the protections of society and doing
battle with those others who have chosen that path. In this
arena he has earned a name for himself, but the killing he has
done is now, seemingly, catching up with him. For recently,
the spirits of those he has killed have begun to remain behind,
and his senses have slowly adjusted to detect and even communicate
with them. Their whispered secrets of the realm beyond the grave
grant him power, but grate on his sanity as he considers the
price they carry. For now, he reluctantly makes use of his
spectral companions and their teachings, augmenting his
formidable guile and stealth.
