Q: How did you get your name?
A: I was trying to think of a good name for a dk since that was my original incarnation and liked the Shadow part, fang just came from a need to find something that when added to Shadow was under 11 characters
Q: How old are you?
A: Shadowfang has been around for i believe 2 years give or take. In real life I'm 23
Q: What level are you?
A: Right now I'm at 115 and will probably be stuck there for quite a while, boy do those levels get expensive after 100.
Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Well I'm a pretty easygoing person. I like to have fun and get to know people.
Q: Where do you live?
A: Up in the Great White North of Canada. In a small town outside of a average size city just across the border from Detroit.
Q: How long have you been logging on to AoD?
A: Well, Shaodwfang has for about 2 years but I did have another character about a year before him. Alas Pendragon didn't last long as I couldn't understand the fun of a text based game.
Q: How did you first get in contact with Ages of Despair?
A: Well Lothar is my cousin and i visit him quite often. He started AOD and seemed to really enjoy it so I decided to give it a try.
Q: Do you regularly play or wiz on any other MUDs?
A: no AOD is the only mud I play on.
Q: Are you a normal mudder or do you seldom log on?
A: Liv was rather upset when i told her about my rule
A: Lately I have been on AOD for at least couple hours almost every day. Actually it has gotten to the point where I have had to make a rule for myself, if I ever choose AOD over fun in real life Shadowfang gets suicided.
Q: Have you met any fellow mudders in RL?
A: Only Lothar but i have know him since he was 2 hours old. I have thought about visiting some people but not sure if I am actually going to do it. Part of the stigma of meeting people over the internet.
Q: What was your first kill and if you ever died, what was the first thing that killed you?
A: hmmm my first kill was a long time ago. Probably a kobold. I do remember my first death though, Willie. Tip to all you new mudders consider yourself and compare it to the mobs consider. Consider does not scale along with your power level.
Q: Did you ever get killed by a ("the") horrible creature?
A: Yes sadly I have on many occasions. I understood the danger each time, I just thought I had powered up a lot more then I really had each time.
Q: Who is your favorite and most hated npc respectively?
A: Well for favorite I would have to say my little apprentice Meghan, (That name should always be spelled with an h so much cuter that way) one of the few npcs that actually help me. My least favorite has to be Baz. Without info sharing I just have to say she caused the biggest waste of 9 hours of my life.
Q: What is the funniest/strangest thing that ever happened to you on AoD?
A: The strangest thing that happens on AOD has to be the amount of real world problems people share with me. I don’t mind listening at all and actually like to give advice or be a shoulder to cry on but I'm surprised people would open up to someone who is basically a stranger about very important and personal life issues.
Q: Do you have any piece of equipment you just can't live without?
A: Not at all, I don’t think my power really comes from my equipment that much. The extra 70 int i get from it is handy but honestly without it I don't think I would be slowed down that much.
Q: Do you have a "special place" where you like to hang out, a private corner so to speak?
A: On the mud not really. If I choose to show up to just chat I stay in my house but that is just because I don't tend to move around once my eq is put away. For exping I travel wherever the quite solid mobs take me.
Q: How much of your time on AOD do you spend hanging out or chatting compared with exping?
A: well on an average day I spend an hour or two in the morning doing heavy exping since it is so quiet here and I get the mobs all to myself. After I am done all my work and errands for the day I usually log on again and do light exping and chatting. So I would say its 2/3 exp time and 1/3 chat time.
Q: What is the best thing about Ages of Despair?
A: That would have to be the people here by far. There are some very nice people I have met that I really enjoy talking to. If they weren't here I would probably spend my time playing War Craft 3 and pushing orcs around.
Q: What is the worst thing about Ages of Despair?
A: That too would have to be the people. Every once and a while a person shows up that nags and bothers and torments you so much that you think it just might be worth the bounty to spend the entire day killing them.
Q: Do you have any driving ambitions on AOD? Is there anything that you want to achieve or perhaps something that you have already achieved?
A: Right now my goal is to get to level 125 so I am a maxed out Psion Woodland. That though is a stepping-stone towards my ultimate goal of soloing Twiggy. If I have thought things through correctly I may just be able to do it.
Q: Is there any advice you would like to give to new players that just entered our world?
A: I would say don't try to find the "best" or "most powerful" guild to join and the "best" race for that guild. Just find something you think would be fun to play and play that without caring if someone else gets a higher exp rate or can drop larger mobs. Oh and for little necromancers you have your own blasting powers to kill mobs get small undeads and work your way up to the big ones don’t just beg the highbies to hand you pixie corpses. (Pet peeve of mine)
Q: Were you ever convicted of a crime?
A: on the mud as far as I know I have a perfectly clean record, haven't even be chan banned. I did kill a level 5 char once but that was in self defense.
Q: How many friends/family play?
A: Only Lothar, and I doubt I will ever convince anyone else to. An ex girlfriend of mine referred to AOD as "the sad text game" and that name caught on amongst my friends and family. So, I don't think they will be trying a mud any time soon.
Q: Favourite quote?
A: I tend to say "I'm just going to keep my fool mouth shut" quite often. The funny thing is whenever I say that people press me for what I was going to say. When i do say it they get mad. Why won't they accept my warning?
Q: What music are you listening to now?
A: Nothing at the moment. I tend to watch television as I mud instead of listening to music. Right now Attack of the Clones is in the DVD player. OOOO its the Yoda fight scene.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to mention about yourself or your life?
A: I do have a question to ask the people that read this. How is it that I can be the biggest flirt in the mud or in real life yet girls never get mad or annoyed? They actually talk to me about the creepy guys that keep hitting on them. (And no I really don’t think they are trying to drop hints to me)
Q: If you could remove one of the questions from this interview and replace it with another one, which would you remove and what would you replace it with?
A: I would replace the least favorite thing about AOD question because I don’t think that even annoying people is really a large problem. I think I would replace it with what’s your favorite irrational number.
Q: And of course I will have to ask you to answer your own question now.
A: e
A: I'm such a geek sometimes.
Q: Who would you like me to interview next, and why?
A: I would like to here an interview from a smaller character just starting out here, but with enough of a foothold that people know them. Maybe an Enix or Saskatia. A known char below 50.
Q: If I do those interviews, is there a specific question that you want me to ask?
A: How they feel about being a smaller character in a mud populated by some very high level ones. If it ever feels frustrating to not have the power you see others wield.
Q: Do I have your permission to make this information public on the People of AoD webiste or any other media?
A: of course
