An interview with Sparhawk - 2002-10-15

Personal details:

Q: How did you get your name?
A: I got it from a David Eddings book. Im rather fond of it and have used it on many muds.

Q: How old are you?
A: 23 in real life, 21 weeks on AoD.

Q: What level are you?
A: 129 for now =) (check back tomorrow)

Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Im rather anti-social most of the time because I like spending time by myself slaying and thinking. I like to sit back, observe, learn, and try to figure complicated things out on my own. I am helpful to all, but will lend my left arm to my friends if they are in need.

Q: Where do you live?
A: In a rather non-descript vault filled with 19 chests for all of my equipment that I feel some need to collect and store.

Q: How long have you been logging on to AoD?
A: Since around the middle of January this year (2002).

Mudding in general:

Q: How did you first get in contact with Ages of Despair?
A: After days and weeks of searching for a new mud from Top Mud Sites, I settled down here. =)

Q: Do you regularly play or wiz on any other MUDs?
A: Other muds are completely separate worlds to me.

Q: Are you a normal mudder or do you seldom log on?
A: Hehe, that's a good one. I believe I am logged on and active as much as anyone else around here, a true addict.

Q: Have you met any fellow mudders in RL?
A: I have never met a single person from AoD in real life. There are some I wouldn't mind meeting, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself.

Game specific:

Q: What was your first kill and if you ever died, what was the first thing that killed you?
A: Im not exactly sure, but I think my first kill was a rabbit in the heights. My first death I believe was a drowning, quickly followed by the horrible monster. Zilider has killed me more times than any other single, unique NPC.

Q: Did you ever get killed by a ("the") horrible creature?
A: See above. Yes, and for you people that think its silly to ignore the warning, you never know what’s on the other side until you look for yourself. (ok, so at the time i didn't know you could "look west" and see the next room)

Q: Who is your favourite and most hated npc respectively?
A: Most hated first, because its a no-brainer for me -- Kraal. Favorite NPC is not a slayable experience monster, its my trustworthy and always faithful Suzanne.

Q: What is the funniest/strangest thing that ever happened to you on AoD?
A: Not exactly sure, but since I read it in Griff's interview and it also happened to me, Ill say having a conversation with Kraal. It was quite funny, he invited me to his place to wrestle for his helmet. I declined at the time =).

Q: Do you have any piece of equipment you just can't live without?
A: I am an incurable collector of equipment. I don't know that I couldn't live without any single piece of equipment, but there are three items that are irreplaceable. One, a rose that Fallenangle gave to me the day she was nuked. Two, a rose that Angan placed by Ordred's statue the day it was unveiled. (by far the saddest day on any mud I have ever experienced, we miss and love you Ordred *cries*). Three, a free chest voucher from Christmas 2000 I believe that has some pretty nice ASCII graphics done on it.

Q: Do you have a "special place" where you like to hang out, a private corner so to speak?
A: ask any midbie/highbie and they will tell you I hang out whenever there are "quite solid" mobs, my special place is the treants =).

Q: How much of your time on AOD do you spend hanging out or chatting compared with exping?
A: Up until about 1-2 months ago, I spent 99% of my time exping, now its only about 85-90% of the time =). Also, thanks to backstab taking 7 rounds, I have alot of time to chat WHILE exping, so I multitask alot =).

Q: What is the best thing about Ages of Despair?
A: Without a doubt the people (mort and immort). I went through a rough time with my bounty and the only reason I stayed was the wonderful people that I just couldn't leave and not talk to again.

Q: What is the worst thing about Ages of Despair?
A: I think the vagueness of the law code is really bad. (Ill leave it at that)

Q: Do you have any driving ambitions on AOD?
A: I have many goals, lets see. One, kill kraal, repeatedly and brutally. Two, get to 150. Three, be a complete character (150 and full cce). That's the easy ones, the rest are much more complicated =).

Q: Is there any advice you would like to give to new players that just entered our world?
A: Read the handbook before you start asking questions. Ill help just about any newbie that has read the handbook, but I really hate the ones that are true newbies and skip it.

Other / Strange:

Q: Were you ever convicted of a crime?
A: Yes.

Q: How many friends/family play?
A: Real life friends/family, none. I would like to think that I have many friends that I have met at AoD that play here still =).

Q: Favourite quote?
A: Fyxen one day made a comment that she typed "malecheck" instead of "mailcheck". Quite a Freudian slip if you ask me, lol.

Q: What music are you listening to now?
A: None, im at w$rk.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to mention about yourself or your life?
A: Not really.

Q: If you could remove one of the questions from this interview and replace it with another one, which would you remove and what would you replace it with?
A: I would remove the one asking what the worst part of Aod is. I think that these interviews should be positive and the questions informative about the person's character. I would replace it with a question asking who you arch-enemy (player or NPC) is.

Q: And of course I will have to ask you to answer your own question now.
A: Hehe, if you don't know by now, than go back and read the interview you silly cow. Kraal.

Q: Who would you like me to interview next, and why?
A: Meifert, because hes a great guy that keeps to himself and I want to know more about him. *mgrin*

Q: If I do that interview, is there a specific question that you want me to ask?
A: Not particularly.

Q: Do I have your permission to make this information public on the People of AoD webiste or any other media?
A: Oh, is that what this was all about, sorry, no. ... Just kidding, sure.
